Samenvatting

Studio "Noorderruimte" starts with a joint inventory research on the entire coast of the Wadden Sea. During this analysis I'm focusing on the theme of landscape. Moreover, three personal fascinations rise up: water safety, the change of the tides and its ecology, and the "readability" of the landscape. The Eems-Dollardregion is investigated for a suitable location to make the water safety and the coastal landscape experienceable with a nature-educational program as an economical "driver". The site in Delfzijl, between industrial area Oosterhorn and the old "terp" village Borgsweer appears to be suitable and provides also other interesting starting points for a design. This location is being researched on several aspects and some important conclusions can be drawn: during its history the landscape lost various characteristic lines and directions, mainly because of the industry and scaling in agriculture. Closely to the location two water systems meet; water storage is needed and may help improving the experience of the landscape. The project site is because of the industry easily accessible, but because of the same industry some of the routes are unpleasant in terms of scenic experience. In the future the industry will expand, but the "perished" village Weiwerd will be restored with business " functions". Furthermore, various ideas already exist for a recreational program in the area (e.g. a kiosk for information and a small pond to Germany). A design for a landscape park, entitled "'t Kiekberiek", connects via a route of a plank bridge contrasting lines of the diverse landscapes. In this way a harmonic transition will be created between the terp village and the industry by restoring historical lines and directions in the landscape. The operation of the park is strengthened by placing three pavilions: " Zeekiek'n", "Boskiek'n" and "Wotterkiek'n". These pavilions together create a serie from different points of view. Each of them exists of an element for climbing and an element for watching. This is expressed in materialization and their vocabulary of shapes. "Zeekiek'n" is a view point outside of the dike with a unique location to spend a night, where you can experience the transition between the rough landscape of the sea and the quiet "kwelder"- landscape. Main pavilion "Boskiek'n" focuses on the dike and a small planted forest. The visitor climbs the pavilion and finds on its way to the top an information point and a small restaurant. "Wotterkiek'n" exhibits, with a canoe storage and kiosk, the water storage landscape, with on the one hand the sharp, angular side of the industry and on the other hand the soft, natural side of the village landscape.
