Samenvatting

The European Standard EN 12354-1 [1] presents a model for the transmission of airborne sound between 2 adjacent rooms in buildings. The model links the performance of buildings to that of building elements. Input data for this model are the sound reduction indices of relevant building elements and the acoustical properties of the junctions formed by those elements. The junctions are acoustically characterized by means of the vibration transmission index Kij. For junctions of single homogeneous building elements the values of Kij are rather well known. For junctions with cavity walls however, the values of Kij are not known quite well, partly because of the lack of data from practice. To compensate this, empirical values are used in computer models, based on EN 12354-1. To get some data on Kij, measurements have been carried out in practice to determine its value at several junctions with cavity walls made of aerated concrete. Measurement results have been compared to the empirical values. The difference depends on the type of transmission path. Also it seems that Kij of a junction depends on the situation and geometry of the junction.
