Samenvatting
We present the essentials of a new theoretical model for the thermodynamics of multicomponent liquid mixtures of silica and basic metal oxides. In combination with free-energy data on solids, the model can describe the high-temperature solid-liquid phase behaviour of oxides and silicates. By way of example we show the predicted melting behaviour of solid magnesia in contact with a basic slag.
