Samenvatting
The performance is studied of a compact plastic heat
exchanger to which plastic inserts are added. Drop size
distributions are relatively unaffected by the inserts, as
is the condensate mass flux. Heat transfer is increased by
about 20% because of increased convection. Estimates
are provided of the main length scales to facilitate the
prediction of pressure drop and heat transfer.
The gas cleaning efficiency of the exchanger is
mainly determined by the equilibrium concentration that
can be reached in the condensate. With several exchang
ers in a row the condensate temperature can be suffi
ciently reduced to reach a high cleaning efficiency.
