In this essay, a connection is made between the imagery of 1990's liquid architecture, designed with the help of the computer, and the 1960's fascination with prehistoric caves. This comparison allows one to pinpoint a contemporary notion of historical valuation and continuity. This response to difference does not lie primarily in possible resemblances of compared forms, but relates primarily rather to the construction of imagination: The cultural premises of design.
