Synthesis of well-defined perfluoroalkyl-end-capped polymers by ring-opening polymerization

For the purpose of developing model coating systems, it is important to use well-defined coating precursors. In this work, perfluoroalkyl-end-capped polyesters were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of e-caprolactone (e-Cl) through so-called 'activated monomer' mechanism. The polymerization of e-Cl in a living manner, making the molecular weight of polycaprolactone easily tunable, with a low polydispersity index (~1.1). In addition, no cyclic structures have been observed.
