Supporting Patients in participating in Clinical Trials with Technology-Enabled Solutions

This work-in-progress presents our experiences in supporting patients in a complex lifestyle monitoring clinical trial in cardiovascular care. Our experience suggested that when implementing a technology-enabled solution in clinical contexts for patient engagement, adherence and quality of data acquisition with people of low digital literacy, the design research team should adopt service design thinking to ensure adherence and positive patient participation; they should include expertise in the team that can provide the required technical support for quality data management, adherence and positive patient participation; they should employ an empathic design approach to create an inclusive approach towards positive patient participation.
