Samenvatting

In microfluidic applications where homogeneous mixing is of pivotal importance efficient mixing is hindered due to the low Reynolds numbers. This scheme can be enhanced with smart geometrical designs (passive mixing) or with an external applied force (active mixing). Even though both schemes independently have their own limitations and disadvantages, little work has been done on combining them, to get the best of both worlds. In this study we employ the combination of active magnetic mixing with passive staggered herringbone structures, aiming for increased mixing efficiency in no-flow-through micro reaction chambers.
