Samenvatting

This paper presents a brief overview of some recent trends instructure-property modelling of the mechanics of materials. Illustrations aregiven within the field of crystal plasticity, thermomechanical coarsening ofsolders, strain path effects through dislocation substructuring andquasi-brittle failure of coatings. Each of the subjects is briefly addressedand a characteristic result is shown. Finally, the use of computationalhomogenization schemes as versatile tools to predict the engineering behaviourof materials from the underlying microstructure is discussed.
