    Samenvatting

A statistical model of the partially reversible magnetostrain effect (MSE) in the twinned thermoelastic martensite is developed. The model starts from the account of magnetoelastic interaction existing in all ferromagnetic solids and then relates the magnetic-field-induced strains to the relaxation of the internal microstresses of martensite caused by this interaction. The influence of the axial compression on the value and irreversibility rate of MSE is studied. Both field-induced strains and stress–strain dependencies computed for the Ni–Mn–Ga alloys are in a quantitative agreement with the experimental data.
