Samenvatting
A range of catalysts was screened for activity and product selectivities in the pyrolysis of CH4. Expts. were performed in a flow reactor at 1125 Deg and atm. pressure. The pyrolysis of CH4 is primarily affected by the sp. surface area of the catalyst and not by its particular type. The highest yields to gaseous and liq. products are obtained in an empty reactor tube, whereas high sp. surface areas produce mainly graphitic coke and H. The results are compared with sp. surface area effects in the catalytic oxidative dimerization of CH4
