Samenvatting
This paper presents a novel antenna array structure featuring a flat-top symmetric two-dimensional radiation pattern. The radiating structure consists of an active antenna surrounded by reactively loading elements. The flat-top radiation pattern is achieved by properly tuning the reactive loads, which are realized as metal waveguides filled with a homogeneous dielectric material and terminated on a short circuit. The reactance of the parasitic elements is modulated by controlling the length of the waveguides. An antenna array with 11×11 radiating elements has been designed and analyzed. The optimized structure exhibits a [-25°; 25°] flat-top radiation pattern, supports two polarizations, and is inherently matched.
