Samenvatting
Since 1980 there has been much research in the field of PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems). Many institutes have started PACS pilot projects all over the world, especially in the U.S.A., Europe and Japan. The general outlines of Japanese PACS projects visited in May 1987 during a Dutch study tour sponsored by the Netherlands Organisation for the Advancement of Pure Research (ZWO) are described in this paper. Besides many similarities in the Japanese approaches to those of the U.S.A. and Europe, the major conclusion is that the majority of the projects visited seem to have a far more optimistic time schedule.
