Synthetic organs can change the way we look at our own natural organs. Although a synthetic organ is in the first instance the property of the institution or company that produces it, it becomes ours as soon as it is placed in our body. Even if synthetic organs are not sold on the open market, the fact that they are functionally and biologically identical to natural organs could lead us to regard both kinds of organs as commodities. Is that a problem?
