Samenvatting
We present a novel approach to accelerate direct volume rendering of large data sets using texture mapping capabilities of consumer graphics hardware. The presented approach is tailored to overcome the bottlenecks found in the graphics hardware. The speedup is achieved through a two-folded space-leaping, using bricking and octrees. Our method allows fast run-time changes of the transfer function. Our approach is particularly aimed at large sparse volume data sets.
