Samenvatting

We present a nanoseconds optical cross-connect switch with wavelength, space, and time switching operation for high performance optical metro/access networks and data center networks. The fast optical switches can enhance the performance of optical networks by providing large-capacity switching capability and efficiently sharing the data plane resources by exploiting statistical multiplexing. Results on a 4x4 photonic integrated WDM switch will be presented and the roadmap to photonic integration of large port optical switches will be discussed.
