Samenvatting

The flow of a solution containing semidilute nonadsorbing polymers near a flat wall and past a sphere is considered. We focus on polymer concentrations beyond overlap. Near a flat wall we numerically compute the slip thickness for chains with excluded volume. For the flow of a polymer solution past a sphere we compute Stokes flow with nonuniform viscosity numerically and compare it with recent analytical results [Fan, Dhont and Tuinier, Phys. Rev. E 75, 011803 (2007)] based on a step function approximation. We show the regime where the analytical results are valid and to what extent nanoparticle motion is retarded.
