This rapport is the result of a nine months incompany assignment with van Zanten raadgevende ingenieurs (Zri). A methodology for advising in the selection of procurement strategies was already in use at Zri, but it was found rather limited. Consequently, for this assignment further research has been done into the different types of procurement strategy available, and the decision parameters.The procurement strategy is related to the characteristics of each building project. The methodology had to be utilizable for Zri within diverse situations. The aim of the project has been formulated as: "to design and develop a methodology and related tools for Zri, through which clients can be advised effectively and efficiently in establishing an appropriate procurement strategy.Firstly, research orientation in the field of procurement was done. Subsequently, the contracting process had been analyzed through a process management approach. Then, the relevant procurement aspects have been related to theory and different methodologies have been reviewed. Based on these results, a theoretical process of procurement has been developed. The methods of procurement that are practiced by Zri have been analysed. The Antony van Leeuwenhoek Ziekenhuis project, the Deventer Ziekenhuis project and the Stadsschouwburg Eindhoven project were subject of analysis. A diagnosis of theory and practice has been made, which resulted in strong points and weak points in the process of procurement.A methodology for procurement selection has been designed, based on this diagnosis. The methodology describes thoroughly all steps that should be made in the procurement process. Additionally various tools were developed to help Zri in advising their clients. A team of experts was formed to test this methodology. All remarks made by this team, have been integrated in the final design of the methodology.Through this methodology, the knowledge in the field of procurement, derived from theory and practice, can effectively be put into practice.
