Samenvatting

The combination of simultaneous SAXS, WAXS, and Raman spectroscopy renders the possibility to follow in-situ morphological, structural and reaction kinetics with a perfect time correlation. This combination has been used to get more insight in the L-S transition and the occurrence of microand macro-phase separation during in-situ polymerisation of styrene starting from a homogeneous solution with polyethylene. The results show that Raman spectroscopy can also be used as an indirect measurement for the change in optical properties of the system, which can be related to the volume of measurement. Particularly interesting is that this kind of turbidity measurements are very sensitive for the onset of crystallisation and the occurrence of micro– and macro phase separation.
