Uittreksel

Several numerical modeling approaches with different levels of complexity have been developed and used in the last decade for modeling of masonry and historical structures. These approaches usually require a set of input parameters related to linear and nonlinear properties of masonry constituents that, ideally, should be obtained experimentally.
However, proposal of predictive models for masonry mechanical properties based on the properties of its constituents is a complex task. This is partly due to the variety of construction methods and materials throughout the world and partly due to the lack of available experimental results on nonlinear properties of materials used for masonry. This chapter provides a review on the most important elastic and non-elastic mechanical properties of masonry for numerical simulations. The experimental test methods and analytical formulas are presented and discussed.
