Product platforms have predefined modularity with standardized interfaces. However, in the context involving advanced technologies, these interfaces are not mature at the product design stage. Using an empirical study of 24 projects in microlithography machinery manufacturing, this paper examines the interrelationships among project context, platform modeling, and success.
