Samenvatting

This paper studies design constraints for a highmass, low-stroke suspension device based on permanent magnets, where specific focus is on the force density. Stability problems, inevitable in such permanent magnet-based systems, are not considered, hence it is assumed that some form of bearing supports the instable degrees-of-freedom. As 3D finite element modeling is time consuming, especially for models with small stroke compared to overall dimensions and purely consisting of hard magnetic materials, an analytical method is adapted and used to investigate the influence of the magnetization vector on the interaction forces.
