Samenvatting

As the global demand for lithium-ion batteries continuous to rise, recycling becomes essential to ensure resource security and minimize the environmental impact. This project proposes a continuous, hydrometallurgical route for extracting lithium (and other metals) from black mass – a fine powder derived from end-of-life batteries – within a slurry bubble column. Through reactor modeling and reactor design, a preliminary economic analysis demonstrates a way to recover the valuable materials while assessing the cost-effectiveness of the process for industrial-scale battery recycling.
