Samenvatting

The kinetics of the hydrogenation of fructose have been studied at different conditions. The initial hydrogen consumption rate is independent of the fructose concentration and can be described as a function of the hydrogen pressure. The relations can be understood assuming that hydrogen and fructose are adsorbed on different type of active sites according to a Langmuir‐Hinshelwood model, that a reaction between adsorbed species of atomic hydrogen and fructose is rate controlling, and that the reaction is retarded by adsorption of a product formed during the reaction.
