International Round Robin on 2 types of glazing concerning accuracy of laboratory sound insulation measurements - results of TU/e Acoustics Laboratory.

In laboratory sound insulation measurements on glazings a special putty is prescribed for sealing the perimeter to prevent sound leakages: Perennator TX 2001 S Applying this putty is very tiresome. A possible substitute for this putty has been suggested: Norseal 2520. To compare the sealing quality of this foam to that of Perennator, a Round Robin test has been organised in which 23 laboratories in Europe participated. Two types of glazing, a common double glazing and a high performance one, have been used as test objects. A test programme has been developed. In it some measurements were aimed at a comparison of the Norseal foam and the Perennator putty. However, most measurements concerned the repeatability and reproducibility of the test method of ISO 140-2, determined from the test results, using the foam as sealant. This report contains only the results carried out in the transmission rooms of the Acoustics Laboratory of Eindhoven University of Technology, Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. In this Round Robin it acted as the representative of TNO. These results have only been compared with the average values of all Round Robin results. The overall conclusion is: • Using Norseal foam instead of Perennator does not lead to large differences – less than 1 dB- in test results, for both test objects and for results of TU/e Acoustics Laboratory as well as the average RR-results; • Test results of TU/e Acoustics Laboratory are very similar to the averaged values of all RR test results for both test objects.
