Influence of electric field on thermoacoustic transfer function of flat premixed flame

Samenvatting

Reduction of combustion noise and suppression of combustion instabilities is of significant importance for many industrial and domestic burning devices. Current research activities are directed to develop both passive and active means for suppression of acoustic oscillations in combustion. This study is a part of research aimed to assess the applicability of an electric field (EF) as an actuator for active control of thermoacoustic oscillations. In this work we study influence of a DC EF on the thermoacoustic behavior of a flat CH 4/air flame, which was characterized through a thermoacoustic transfer function (TF). It is shown that the application of DC EF leads to noticeable changes in the flat flame TF. In general, the TF of the flat flame shifts to higher frequencies, when an EF is applied. This shift, which can reach up to 40 Hz, relates to a decreased flame stand-off distance.
