title = "Generating Knowledge Through Design",
abstract = "The essay looks at several questions relevant to establishing the legitimacy of design research and its autonomy from research in the 'natural' sciences. Two avenues of enquiry are proposed. The first is to examine extrinsic factors in the generation of knowledge, in other words, how concepts arise within scientific and design disciplines. A second way is examining intrinsic factors, the 'built in' differences between the two. The tentative conclusions are then used to outline forms of knowledge for design research.",
