Geluidsperceptie en vliegtuiglawaai: een akoestisch dilemma

Airplane noise is a necessary by-product of our present mobile society. The physical amounts of noise caused by aircraft can be measured or even computer-predicted with a precision better than a decibel. Determination of the amount of annoyance it causes, however, is subject to a variability of at least ten decibels. This discrepancy, sometimes referred to as ‘the acoustic dilemma’, should have implications for the enforcement of legislation that exists on tolerance limits for airplane noise.
