Samenvatting

Earlier research has demonstrated the existence of organizational factors that influence an organization’s ability to proactively manage risks. In total, 21 influencing factors were identified in 6 categories. This paper presents some of the results of a survey which was distributed among a large group of risk management experts active in a variety of industries to further validate the orthogonality and completeness of the presented categorization of influencing factors. Analysis of the survey results demonstrates the following: a) we can statistically show that respondents are indeed knowledgeable in the field of risk management, b) none of the earlier identified influencing factors were deemed irrelevant and c) only some minor revisions to the original model were suggested. Lastly, implications of these findings and related future research are discussed.
