Samenvatting
Using formative evaluation (FE) in Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI)-based science lessons has a lot of potential as it can help teachers to assess students’ skills developed in such lessons. Since limited research is available that combines these two areas, this study focuses on identifying what is important when designing FE in SSI-lessons.
After reviewing the international literature on SSI education and FE, we aimed to integrate the two fields. In various iterations, 26 statements were formulated. The statements were then discussed in semi-structured interviews with 23 science teachers, (science) teacher educators and researchers in (science) education. The interviews were analyzed qualitatively. In this paper, we discuss the resulting 17 guidelines for designing FE in SSI-lessons.
