Samenvatting
The energy transition and the shift from fossil-fueled-based synchronous generation (SG) to inverter-based renewable energy sources (IBRs) will impact power systems planning and operation. The changes in the system strength and inertial response can be named as two major consequences of this transition. The changes in the system strength address the ability of the system to maintain the voltage waveform during normal operation and disturbances. The short-circuit contribution from IBRs is much more limited than the inherent contribution from SG units. This limited contribution can lead to deeper voltage dips during events in the future. In addition, high penetration levels of IBRs can alter the propagation area for voltage dips. This paper investigates the role of fast fault current injection (FFCI) tuning of IBRs on voltage dips in future grids. The result illustrates that well-tuned FFCI helps to maintain the voltage during voltage dips; however, the impact is very local.
