    Samenvatting

A small-angle camera is used, permitting pictures up to 0.25 Deg and corresponding to approx. 360 A. for Cu K a radiation. Many submicroscopic hollow spaces are often apparent in dry cellulose fibers which contribute greatly toward scattering because of their difference in d. in relation to cellulose. In the swollen condition the cavities are filled with H2O and, because of their small no. and their limited difference in d. from that of the cellulose fiber, they contribute insignificantly toward scattering. Thus, the principal portion of scattering is furnished by the cryst. ranges which are imbedded in amorphous cellulose dild. with H2O and with a lower d. of electrons. [on SciFinder (R)]
