Samenvatting

Recently, new electric drive systems for medium and heavy duty applications are being introduced. These systems bring benefits in terms of energy efficiency, low noise, and zero emission driving. For example challenges are seen in improving transport efficiency (influenced by battery weight), cost reduction, and improving driving ranges. In this paper, a review will be given on the state-of-the-art of full-electric trucks being build and being planned to be build. The specifications of these vehicles have been collected and will be graphically represented and discussed. To extend this review, some insightful calculations will be performed to give a rough estimate of battery weights and reduction in cargo capacity when converting a Diesel truck into a full-electric truck under given range requirements and battery energy density.
