Samenvatting

ESR spectra were recorded at -180 Deg of Ti(III) in a LiCl-KCl eutectic which had been maintained at various temps. (400-1000 Deg) for 1 hr, then quenched in liq. N. Broad signals at g = 1.73 and sharp signals at g = 1.95 are attributed to octahedrally and tetrahedrally coordinated Ti(III), resp. The ratio of concns. of Ti(III) at octahedral and tetrahedral sites wa s .apprx.247. The no. of Ti(III) at tetrahedral sites increased with increasing temp . from which the sample was quenched. A sample quenched from 1000 Deg resumed a Noct/Ntetr after reheating at 400 Deg that was appreciably smaller than after quenching from 800 Deg. These results indicate that an equil. exists between 2 different kinds of surroundings, and agree with conclusions drawn by D. M. Gruen and R. l. McBeth (1963) from spectroscopic data.
