Samenvatting

The main result of the paper is a novel approach for the treatment of hard contacts, i.e. unilateral constraints, within a nonlinear finite element framework. The mechanical description and the corresponding nonlinear finite element formulation allow for large deformations in time and nonlinear elastic material response. The dynamical response of a nonlinear elastic string which comes into contact with a rigid disk is analyzed.
