Samenvatting

There is a strong need for more efficient and fit for use buildings. At present it is difficult to define the performance of buildings in an objective way to efficiency and as a facilitator for the „production¿ process. The interpretation of the design brief is difficult: the intentions of the principal are often not clear or sometimes not complete formulated. Goal of this project is to examine differences in interpretations of the design brief between different design team members. Considering what makes a good building, results in multiple interpretations based on the different background, training and experiences of the people who answer the question about how good a building is. Especially the management of operating theatres could be improved on many aspects. What is needed is a new integral design approach which enables to integrate the different aspects of adequate and good buildings in a supportive framework during the design process which also forms the basis for validation. Especially the focus is on interpretation of the intentions formulated with the design brief as starting point within the design process and how to support this, so that the decisions about fulfilling „production¿ aspects related to the operating theatres in the design are made transparent for all stakeholders within the design process and in the validation process.
