Samenvatting

This paper briefly focuses on some recent trends and development in the past years on computational homogenization techniques and its applications. Within this context, several topics are addressed: (1) first-order computational homogenization: historical overview; (2) second-order computational homogenization: how to incorporate the size of the underlying microstructure; (3) continuous-discontinuous multi-scale approach for localization problems; (4) multi-physics and coupled problems: heat conduction & thermo-mechanically coupled problems; (5) thin structures, shells and beams with a complex through-thickness architecture; (6) computational homogenization towards cohesive zones.
