In the future, a large-scale expansion of offshore wind energy is expected in the Netherlands. For this large-scale expansion, a well-designed offshore network is needed. Different network configurations will lead to other availability of the offshore network and therefore also the offshore wind energy. This paper treats the contribution of offshore wind energy to the reliability of the Dutch power system, taking into account the availability of the wind power production and the offshore network. In this research, different configurations for the offshore wind energy network are defined, like individually connected wind parks, clusters of wind parks of 1 GW, and two main clusters of offshore wind parks. For each configuration, the availability of the offshore network is determined. Then the offshore wind energy, the offshore network and the Dutch power system are combined into one reliability model for the combined system. Conclusions are drawn about the availability of the different offshore networks and the usefulness of the combined reliability model developed.
