N2 - An Eulerian approach using spatially fixed finite elements is applied to analyse the die compaction of compressible continua (powders). The material constitutive behaviour is described by the theory of elastoplasticity. Frictional interaction between the continuum and the punch/die walls is included. Element "remeshing" is governed by the process specification and not, as in the Lagrangian approach, by nodal displacements. An example demonstrates the merits of the method developed.
