Samenvatting

Absolute density measurements of ammonia in hydrogen and nitrogen containing plasma have been performed by means of cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy. From the linear dependence of the ammonia density as function of the pressure in the plasma vessel and the low pressures at which the ammonia is formed, it is concluded that ammonia is mainly produced at the vessel wall. The process in which ammonia is formed is called plasma-activated catalysis, because plasma is used to produce the radicals for the molecule production and the wall, covered with atomic radicals, acts as a catalyst
