Samenvatting
The inter-relationship between travel behaviour and land use has since long been an interesting topic in the field of transportation and urban planning. Modern Smart Card technology enables us to trace trip trajectories along a day at the individual level in the entire city of Seoul, Korea. Newly available information of individual travel patterns, or sequences of public-mode trips, consisting of mode used, departure and arrival times and locations, and other details of each trip in the pattern, initiated a research project on association between travel pattern type and land use. The paper identifies travel pattern groups using sequential motif search and analyses the inter-relationship between travel pattern type and land use. The findings suggest clearly identifiable distinct patterns and interpretable inter-relationships between travel behaviour and land use.
