Samenvatting

develop a new approach to 6DOF motion technology for motionsystems intended for driving simulators. Humans experiencemotion in no more than 6DOF. Hence a design concept is sought, which moves a payload in any direction and is driven in no morethan 6DOF.A design concept is found in a roll, pitch and heave mechanismdriven and supported by 12 sets of wheels provided with in-wheelmotors. The wheels provide the system with accelerations in theremaining three DOFs: surge, sway and yaw. The wheel drivensystem moves unrestricted in these directions. The only limitationwould be the size of the hall it is situated in. The system isdesigned such that accelerations in any direction can be appliedinstantaneously. The designed concept has a total mass of 11 t,including a 3.5 t payload.Index TermsMotion based driving simulation, mechanicaldesign, motion cueing, instantaneous acceleration in 6DOF.
