Samenvatting
Digital games are visual languages that express socially established meanings and concepts through convention. Similarly, colors possess meanings and, depending on their use, can influence the comprehension of specific information within a visual language. Based on this, this article aims to demonstrate potential relationships between culturally attributed meanings of colors and their applications in elements of a realistic game. To do this, a literature review was conducted on the information visualization process, concepts of semantics, semiotics, and rhetoric. These concepts are elucidated and examined in the game Horizon Zero Dawn. It is concluded that the use of certain colors in specific elements within the game reinforced chromatic meanings, as the presented universe is visually close to reality. Furthermore, a detailed semantic study of colors is considered essential, given that in games of this kind, it is expected that the representation of the entire digital universe aligns with reality.
