Cell-integrated SENSIing functionalities for smart BATtery systems with improved performance and safety

Project: Onderzoek direct

The main research question in this project is if internal- and spatially-distributed- sensors in Lithium-ion batteries can enhance the performance of individual batteries and battery packs. Measurements include 2-dimensional (2D) data of temperature and pressure, and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) on individual electrodes. Our role in this project is to develop state-estimation algorithms which, using these new measurements, can outperform state-of-the-art approaches which only use conventional measurements. An important step in this process, is to identify relations between measurements and states which are typically already available such as voltage, current and State-of-Charge (SoC) and new 2D temperature and pressure measurements.
