Omschrijving
Efficient processes for the conversion of renewable electrical energy into hydrogen are crucial for realising the energy transition. Hydrogen can be produced on a large scale by using electrolysis to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. However, electrolysis has a low efficiency that is closely associated with the flow and transport phenomena in the vicinity of electrodes, especially around the hydrogen bubbles formed. In this project, researchers will study the formation of hydrogen bubbles, the transport of chemical substances in the vicinity of bubbles and the electrodes, and the interaction between bubbles. Insights from the research can be used by the industrial companies involved to make their electrolysis processes far more efficient.
