Research profile

Yali Tang is an assistant professor at the Power and Flow group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her research addresses fluid dynamics and transport phenomena in engineering applications involving multiphase flows and physicochemical conversions. Within this broad area she focuses on developing and utilizing advanced computational models for interphase interactions and interfacial transport and providing experimental validations of these methods.  Together with industrial partners, she targets high-impact application areas pertaining to the Iron Power technology, green steel production, and alkaline water electrolysis for hydrogen generation.

Academic background

Yali Tang studied Chemical Engineering at Sichuan University (Chengdu, China), where she obtained her Master degree in 2011. Subsequently, she did her PhD at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) with Prof.dr.ir. J.A.M. (Hans) Kuipers at Multiphase Reactors group. In 2015 she obtained her PhD with the thesis ‘Direct Numerical Simulations of Hydrodynamics in Dense Gas-Solid Flows’. Afterwards, she did a postdoc at the same research group, working on ‘micro-mechanics of wet solids in gas-solid contactors’. In 2017 she became an assistant professor in the group of Power and Flow of Prof.dr.ir. N.G. (Niels) Deen at TU/e.

Quote

Qualitative and quantitative prediction of multiphase flows will shape future reactor design and create novel application concepts.
