Research profile

Wouter Weekers is a Doctoral Candidate within the Dynamics and Control group of the department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Under the supervision of Nathan van de Wouw (Full Professor) and Alessandro Saccon (Assistant Professor), Weekers works on automated data-based performance optimization of control systems as part of the NWO Digital Twin program. Focusing on extremum-seeking control, the aim of his work is to make control systems agile under changing circumstances, guaranteeing optimal and uniform system performance in terms of time-varying system behavior, while dealing with changing circumstances of use, hard constraints related to hardware and customer specifications, and nonlinear system behavior.

Academic background

Wouter Weekers (born, 1997) obtained his B.Sc.-degree (cum laude) in Mechanical Engineering, and his M.Sc.-degree in Systems and Control from Eindhoven University of Technology in 2018 and 2021, respectively. In 2019, Weekers did an internship project at the Laboratoire d'Informatique, de Robotique et de Microélectronique de Montpellier (LIRMM) in Montpellier, France. During this internship, Weekers worked on task-based constrained robot control for dynamic manipulation using a dual-arm robot system. Subsequently, Weekers wrote his M.Sc. thesis on the validation of nonsmooth impact maps in robot impact experiments. In 2021, Weekers started as a doctoral candidate on automated data-based performance optimization of control systems. His current research interests are nonlinear dynamics, data-based control, machine learning, and optimization.
