I aim to support researchers in using their scientific knowledge and expertise to impact society. Industry connections, an understanding of funding schemes and seeing opportunities are quintessential for this and my job.

Academic background

Wouter Kuijpers studied Mechatronics Engineering at the Fontys Hogeschool in Venlo, the Netherlands, where he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in 2013 (cum laude). He received the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree (with great appreciation) in Mechanical Engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), in 2014 and 2016, respectively.

In October 2016, Wouter started his PhD research in the Control Systems Technology group at the department of Mechanical Engineering, under the supervision of René van de Molengraft. His research project was part of the project “LED it Be 50%”, which is (partly) financed by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and was focused on the development of a management support system for controlling energy efficient lighting.

Research profile

Wouter Kuijpers is Program Officer in the Dynamical Systems Design division, supporting researchers that push the frontiers of systems & control research. Wouter’s personal research interests include greenhouse systems and robotics. His PhD research focused on the application of receding horizon optimal control the greenhouse climate control problem. The interest in robotics is largely driven by robot soccer team Tech United Eindhoven, building an integrated robotic system that can play soccer and win matches is enticing. Wouter supports all research in the division, applications range from smart farming, robotics and automated mobility to soft robotics, networked systems and high-tech systems.
