Wouter Hilhorst is an architect and teacher in architecture. He has published about various topics, among which a house in Wassenaar by Dutch architect F.A. Eschauzier, the theme of rustication in architecture, the architecture of Sir John Soane and the Adam brothers, and the design education in the first year bachelor program at Eindhoven University of Technology. He is currently pursuing a PhD about the historical development of the configuration of residential floorplans, from 1800 until 1930, in European architecture. His first supervisor is Professor Bernard Colenbrander, chair of Architectural History and Theory, his second supervisor is Professor Christian Rapp, chair of Rational Architecture, both at the Department of the Built Environment, Eindhoven University of Technology.

Wouter Hilhorst is university lecturer at the chair of Rational Architecture, unit Architectural Design and Engineering, at the Department of the Built Environment of Eindhoven University of Technology, since 2011. After his graduation from Delft University of Technology in 2000 he has worked for several years at a number of Dutch architecture firms. Currently, next to his position at the university, he has his architecture practice in Rotterdam, working independently as well as in collaborations, next to designing and making furniture. He has taught at Delft University of Technology, Rotterdam Academy of Architecture and Urban Design, and workshops in Italy, South Korea and Japan. At the Department of the Built Environment in Eindhoven, Wouter Hilhorst is responsible for the design courses in the first year of the bachelor program.
