Research profile

W.F.L.M. (Wilfred) Hoeben received his M.Sc. in chemical engineering from TU/e in 1990, the graduation project on electron beam-induced modification of polymeric blends, with prof.dr. P.J. Lemstra (ST). From 1991 till 1995 he was chemical engineer and subsequently Materials Laboratory deputy supervisor at NKF high voltage cable factories, with emphasis on power cable & accessory materials compatibility, flame retardancy, water treeing and chemical safety. In 2000 he received his Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from TU/e on pulsed corona-induced degradation of organic materials in water, focusing on non-thermal plasma-driven oxidation pathways of phenol and atrazine in aqueous solution and in-situ detection of reactive oxygen species, with prof.dr. W.R. Rutgers (TN), prof.dr.ir. G.M.W. Kroesen (TN) and prof.dr.ir. C.A.M.G. Cramers (ST). From 2000 till 2009 he was development engineer and scientist at the Philips Lighting Predevelopment Laboratories in Eindhoven, contributing on lamp impurity control, physical-chemical diagnostics, fundamental materials research and ideation. Additionally, he was lecturer gas-vacuum-getter technology, secretary to Philips Contact Group Vacuum Devices, Philips Lighting library advisory board member and Philips Globalis active member. Since 2009 he is researcher with the Electrical Energy Systems - Pulsed Power group. His research interests are plasma chemistry and physical chemistry, specifically plasma-assisted oxidative degradation of priority compounds for air pollution control and plasma synthesis of future fuels, added-value chemicals & reactive oxygen species. In this context he also is EES technology owner physical-chemical diagnostics (gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy) and gas & vacuum issues. Since november 2020 he is assistant professor of basic electrification of chemical processes and lectures in the chemistry & physical chemistry of plasmas.
